Whitening Teeth

Article / 18 August

Friends don’t let friends whiten their teeth too often!

We’re fans of reality TV around Dr. Dental and one show that seems to have some great smiles in the cast is Shahs of Sunset on Bravo. Have you guys watched this show? It’s a hot mess…but very entertaining.

Mike has been on the show for a few seasons and gotten lots of attention for his bright smile. Come to find out, Mike’s brother is a dentist! That totally earns Mike some brownie points with Dr. Dental considering he’s kind of “related” to the dental family.

In an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Mike said his bright white smile is due to getting professional whitening treatments once a month. We were shocked by this and wanted to warn our patients that whitening this often could end up doing a lot of damage.

Patients who do this on a monthly basis could suffer from severe nerve inflammation. Dr. Dental recommends having a professional whitening treatment done in our office once a year with the use of at-home whitening trays, which we can create for you, to maintain your bright smile

Obviously, the best way to keep your smile bright after a professional whitening treatment is to steer clear of drinking dark liquids such as coffee, sodas, and red wine. But if you’re like us and enjoy those drinks, heck we serve them in our office, then we recommend drinking them through a straw when possible. We’re kind of digging the straws with mustaches on them because they remind us of Reza on Shahs of Sunset. Again, we’re big fans!

So raise your mustache-strawed drink of choice and toast to whitening in moderation to keep your smile bright and healthy!
